After theatre debuts in Long Day’s Journey into Night and Julius Caesar, he made his West End debut in A Passage to India from 20 April to 3 December 1960 at the Comedy Theatre, which ran for 302 performances.
He made his acting debut in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) as Tafas (the Arab guide who is shot by Omar Sharif for drinking water from the wrong well). Later, he made numerous TV and film appearances. He worked as an actor for roughly 47 years in the UK.
Return To Pakistan
In the latter half of the 1960s, Mohyeddin went back to Pakistan. Mohyeddin’s rap-style song segment on his popular television chat programme, The Zia Mohyeddin Show, which he hosted from 1969 to 1973, is best remembered for his catchphrase “zara theka lagaiye,” which he used to introduce each song.
He was selected to lead the PIA Arts Academy in 1973 and kept that role until 1977. He later married Nahid Siddiqui, a renowned Kathak dancer, who he had met around this period. Hassan “Moyo” Mohyeddin, a percussionist and music producer, was born to them both.
