Shawna Trpcic passed away suddenly of an unknown cause in Palm Desert on Wednesday, her daughter Sarah announced her death and said:
“Shawna was one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent science fiction costume designers — a creative force, a trusted collaborator, and an all-around delightful person for her friends and colleagues,” her rep Tim Kressman, an agent at Gersh, said. “She was a beloved member of the Star Wars/Lucasfilm family as well as the community of costume designers and the Costume Designers Guild.”
“Shawna had a deep love and appreciation for Star Wars,” Filoni said. “You can see that in every piece of work she did with us. She loved everything about being a part of these stories, including connecting with fans and being a part of that community. I feel like she has always been a part of Star Wars. Her costumes tell a story, providing the suggestion of a life experience that happened before the cameras rolled. I loved collaborating with Shawna, and I will miss her presence.”
Shawna Trpcic started working regularly on Lucasfilm productions, in 2019, starting with the second season of “The Mandalorian.” Trpcic also gave her talents to “The Book of Boba Fett” and, most recently, “Ahsoka.”

Before working with Lucasfilm, Shawna also worked on various projects with Joss Whedon, including series like “Angel,” “Firefly,” “Dollhouse,” and “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” as well as the movie “The Cabin In The Woods.”
Interestingly, Her connection to George Lucas and Lucasfilm began when she, a fan of the TV series “Firefly,” visited Skywalker Ranch thanks to a job she had there. It was during this visit that Shawna had the chance to meet George Lucas. After fifteen years, she received a call to work on “The Mandalorian,” fulfilling her lifelong dream of designing costumes for the Star Wars universe.
In 2019, Shawna Trpcic continued her work on “The Mandalorian” and took on the role of costume designer for “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Ahsoka.” She got the recognition for her contributions, including Emmy nominations and a Costume Designer’s Guild Award for “Boba Fett.” Currently, she is nominated for an Emmy for her work on “The Mandalorian” Season 3.
