Ella Vitalis was declared dead at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn on 20 September 2023 three months after being returned to the care of her parents who had been abusive to her. Ella’s parents lost their children’s custody after taking her to the hospital when she was just 3 weeks old with broken ankles, brain hemorrhage, and a fractured skull.
On 15 September 2023, Ella’s parents called 911 claiming Ella’d choked while her father was feeding her.
Ella Vitalis had blunt force injuries on her head, cuts on her forehead, and swollen eyes.
Even, doctors found that she had a broken jaw. When her parents were asked about it, her mother said that it was the result of her drinking too much milk.
Ella and her brother got separated from her parents for a year in August 2022 when doctors found the injuries on Ella when Ella was just 3 weeks old. At that time, Ella and her brother Liam were brought by her parents to the hospital after police were called to their apartment on a domestic disturbance call. Ella and Liam were kept in the foster care home but her parents were allowed to have a visit with Ella and Liam.
In September 2022, her father left the baby when she was one month old with a bloodied mouth during a visit.
The doctors used a sharp object to cause a moderate amount of blood loss. In June 2023, Judge Pitchal ordered to Ella to live with her parents again despite the harrowing history of abuse.
Ella was found unresponsive at her parents’ apartment and she was taken to the hospital where she was announced dead. It was the result of not having a single check-in appointment.
Ella had been on life support for 5 days before she was declared dead. She suffered from a skull fracture and a brain bleed.
However, Ella’s parents have not been charged or arrested. Ella’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
