DySP Humayun Bhat was a sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in the Kokarnag area of the Anantnag district.
The operation against terrorists in the Garol area was started on 12 September 2023 in the evening and it was stopped at night as they got the news of the sight of terrorists at a hideout, the search for terrorists was started again in the morning of 13 September 2023.
Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonack, and DSP Humayun Bhat were injured in the gunfight with terrorists. DGP Dilbagh Singh expressed grief over the martyrdom of Humayun and the loss of life of other soldiers. DGP said,
“I am deeply saddened by the demise of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak, and DSP Humayun Bhatt, son of retired Jammu and Kashmir Police IG Ghulam Hasan Bhatt.”
